Everyone’s belief or non-belief in God is just a guess
One of the most important things for anyone to acknowledge about their belief or non-belief in God or religion is that it is just a guess. No one knows for sure. No one has any inside information. No one’s special. No one’s chosen.
It doesn't matter how deep someone's belief is. The pope or any other religious leader doesn't know more about God or the level of truth of any religion than anyone else.
If you're offended by this notion, then you are doing the same thing that you claim to be offended by. If you think you know, then you are implying that others don't - - and there are billions of people who believe something different than you. Are you really that special? (Answer: No)
There is nothing wrong with having a belief, and your belief isn't necessarily wrong - - you could be a really good guesser, but don't make your guess (belief) more than it is.
Your guess doesn't, by itself, make you a good person. It doesn't make you better than anyone else. It certainly isn't adequate justification for harming or discriminating against others.
Believing that ‘you know’ is incredibly harmful because it leads to a false sense of righteousness and superiority to others. It fosters division and intolerance.
It's also dishonest. You are being dishonest about yourself and about your belief in God or religion. Nothing good can come from that sort of lie.
Acknowledging that you don't know doesn't diminish or lessen your faith, and it should actually help make it stronger.
Leave your heart and your mind open. Always be questioning and analysing - even your own faith, if you don't, you can be led down the wrong path, and away from your religion's true teachings.
